‘You shall rise up before the grayheaded and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD. (Lev 19:32 NAU)
A gray head is a crown of glory; it is found in the way of righteousness. (Pro 16:31 NAU)
The initiative to minister to our senior members and their friends was born in 2016. The main idea was to organise an event that focused on retirement-aged people; and to have an event where our seniors who are believers in Christ can invite their family and friends to hear a message focused on older people. The gospel message then was woven into the main message.
The first Seniors’ Event took place on Tuesday 13 September 2016. The Ladies Bibles Study had the privilege to help with the logistics and to host our seniors and their friends at the Chapel. Chris was the speaker. The topic for this first event was “Finding the gold in your golden years”.
The second Seniors’ Event took place on 7 March 2017 – the topic was “Living with loneliness”. The next one was held on 16 May 2017, and Karl addressed the topic of “Pain”.
Though most of the seniors who attended these events already were believers in Christ, they had the opportunity to be encouraged in their faith and devotion to Him. Some unbelieving friends and family also attended, and these seniors were exposed to sound Biblical teaching with the gospel explained.
We want to give thanks to the Lord that we could see the older people really enjoying the fellowship, messages and light lunches that were served after each message.
It was a blessing to help make these events possible and to honour the aged among us.
