High King of Heaven book review
"Faith in Christ is not a mere assent to the truth of his messiahship, but a humble betrothal in him as Saviour of the world. We must feel our need of him; we must see the suitableness and sufficiency of his salvation. We must actually go to him as the appointed Saviour and seek acceptance with God through Him alone. We must renounce every other hope and make him all our salvation and all our desire" (Charles Simeon). Christians talk about having and pursuing a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, but it often amounts to very little in our daily lives. Too many of us have lost the sweetness of knowing our Saviour. I've been reading the book "The High King of Heaven" which contains "theological and practical perspectives on the person and work of Christ." It's really an anthology of articles about Jesus, from a range of contributors including Mark Dever, Ligon Duncan, Al Mohler, Steve Lawson, Conrad Mbewe, Paul Washer, and various faculty from the Masters Seminary. Definitely a worthwhile read and a nice companion to your morning or evening Bible reading. Contact the church office if you would like to loan it from our library.
